Weekend Retreat
Langley, VA, 1999
The complex is planned to include four separate structures - house, private art gallery, guest cottage and garage/utility building - on ten wooded acres on the Potomac River across from Washington, DC. The primary building materials are glass, concrete, limestone, teak and steel. The 1,800 SF main residence represents a challenging experiment in load-bearing glass: The sheer walls of laminated glass are engineered to support the roof, with no columns. A central geo-thermal mechanical plant will make the complex highly energy-efficient. (Project; not realized yet)
